As the year comes to an end, many people (myself included) typically take this time to reflect on the past year and plan for the next. I was looking back at my 2023 and realized something interesting. I have 134 posts here on this blog, stretching back to August of 2017. That’s an average of 22 a year, or about twice a month. But my last post was in October of this year. I haven’t posted anything in three months. Why is that?
In the past when I’ve gone stretches without posting, it is because I was too busy, or just didn’t have the mental energy to author a post for the week. But looking back at the last few months, it’s actually been a different reason: namely, I haven’t really had any ideas.
If you think about it, that’s actually a leading indicator of something a little worrying. If I’m not having anything interesting to write about, it means I’m not growing and I’m stuck in a rut. As with any business problem, once you examine the issue (No blog posts), you pull on some threads to find root causes (Stuck in a rut), and so you come up with some two-way-door decisions to try and address the issue. Here are my ideas…
- Start reading more books and quality content, not just scanning feeds.
- Get back into exercising and meditation.
Note that these are simple and easy things to try. We don’t need to do anything drastic yet, like change careers. Let’s just set some milestones with measurable goals and see if that helps us achieve the outcome I’m looking for.
So with that said, let’s circle back in 30 days and check on our progress.
