This is the rare “meta-post”, where I talk about the blog itself as opposed to just whatever random topic popped into my head.
At the beginning of 2024 I decided to be more intentional about writing and make an effort to improve my consistency with posting. I made some adjustments to my work style and the impact on my productivity has been superb. For the first time ever, since I start writing in August of 2017, I have posted every week since January of 2024.
I was writing the other day and I started thinking about this. At some point am I going to run out of ideas? Many of my blog posts are me trying to codify or provide concrete examples of my “core tenets”, the lessons I’ve learned in my career and the foundational principles I try to follow. If you look back over my posts you’ll see patterns start to emerge, that I may provide different examples or actions or advice but it always falls back to the same core set of guiding principles. So my thought was, does that mean I’m eventually going to run out of blog posts to write? My set of “foundational guiding principles” is finite, so eventually I will have said them all.
But then I realized, that’s not how this works. I’m not just blandly stating some generic idea; I’m always trying to provide an anecdotal example of how to put those ideas into practice. And there’s always new situations, technologies, business strategies, market trends, whatever. So there will always be new ways to think about how to apply those core principles to an ever-changing world and industry.
The day I run out of things to post is the day that I have stopped growing and learning, and trying to evolve myself in this industry, and this world.
