At the beginning of the year I made a commitment to post at least once a week. And guess what…I did a really good job keeping up with that commitment. I learned to use a couple different tools, such as writing ahead of time and scheduling the post, or verbally speaking and using speech-to-text tools to turn it into writing. But at the very last home stretch, I just got too distracted and didn’t finish it out.
Am I disappointed? Yes, a little bit. But as with everything, there’s lessons here.
Did I honestly try my best? Yes
Did I learn a lot of new things this year, both from the posts themselves but also from myself in the process of writing the posts and managing my time? Also Yes
Am I learning anything while being reflective on not meeting the commitment? Again, Yes
I’ve learned a lot about myself, but here’s the two most important things.
Firstly, that tasks that seem overwhelming may not be. In reality I can author a blog post and click “schedule” in about 15 minutes, if even that. I heave learned to get over that mental friction block that stops you from doing something.
Secondly, I am not as disappointed in myself as I historically would have been, in not making it the whole year. I have learned to be way more laid-back about recognizing things that are truly priority and important, and learning that sometimes dropping a ball is not a big deal.
So although I did not make it the whole year, I am satisfied with the personal growth that came with this year of writing.
